Meet Lachie
I’m Lachie, the person behind Somewhere by Design. My travels have taken me to 18 countries, including three months travelling solo through Europe and road trips around New Zealand’s South Island.
Those trips shaped the way I plan: realistic travel days, convenient places to stay and time to enjoy each stop. You’ll work directly with me, from our first conversation through to your finished plan.

You make and manage your bookings directly with suppliers. I provide the recommendations, booking links and order to book them in.
Assisted Booking
Book it yourself, with us beside you.

We work through the agreed bookings together in a dedicated remote session. I guide you through dates and details; you enter your payment information and authorise each purchase.
Managed Booking
Approve the plan. We’ll handle the bookings.
From +$295
I complete the agreed advance bookings using your nominated payment method, after we agree the scope, spending limits and booking window. You remain available for required authentication and approvals.
Booking-support fees are additional to the planning fee. Travel purchases are separate. The final Managed Booking fee and scope are confirmed in your proposal.
Managed Booking covers agreed advance reservations. Later cancellations, refunds, rebooking and disruption support are not automatically included.

4. Review your journey
You review the itinerary and provide one round of consolidated feedback within the agreed scope. I make the adjustments and prepare your final plan, ready for Self-Book or optional booking support.

The Signature Journey is especially suited to multi-stop trips of around two to four weeks. Shorter, longer and more complex journeys are considered individually. I assess each enquiry’s destination, complexity and whether I can research it confidently before accepting the work.

No. Planning can start around proposed dates where appropriate. Prices, availability, seasonal conditions and operating schedules can change until bookings are confirmed.

I’ll confirm your expected delivery timeframe before payment. It depends on the journey’s length, complexity, departure date and my planning availability.

Your Signature Journey includes one round of consolidated feedback within the agreed scope. Major changes to destinations, dates, duration or route may require a revised scope, timeframe or additional fee.

No. Self-Book is included if you’d like to make your own reservations. With Assisted Booking (+$195), we work through the bookings together while you make and authorise the purchases. With Managed Booking (from +$295), I complete the agreed reservations with your authority. Travel purchases are separate.

Payment information is used only as required to complete the agreed supplier reservations.
Somewhere by Design does not retain card security codes after a transaction and does not use your payment information for purchases outside the authority you have provided.
You may need to be available during the booking window where your bank or supplier requires authentication or additional approval.

Flights, accommodation, transport and activities are provided by third-party suppliers and subject to their prices, availability, booking conditions and cancellation policies. My role depends on the booking option agreed in your proposal.

Trip Review ($295) gives you a second set of eyes on your existing itinerary. I review the route, pace, logistics and booking priorities, then explain what works and what I’d reconsider before you book.

After itinerary approval and booking authority are in place, usually once suitable international flights are available to book. Other agreed reservations may follow as supplier availability opens. Later cancellations, refunds, rebooking and disruption support are not automatically included.
